EPA recommends that PWSs consider filtering their Cryptosporidium samples in the field. This will save the water system money for shipping costs, and will also save time at the laboratory. EPA has developed an online Sample Collection Training Module and a Sample Collection Pocket Guide. Both of these materials are available online at http://water.epa.gov/lawsregs/rulesregs/sdwa/lt2/compliance.cfm. EPA also recommends that PWS discuss this option with their laboratory and practice field filtering before conducting required monitoring.
