Water that comes out of a dehumidifier is not considered safe to drink. This water has not been disinfected/filtered and may contain bacteria. However, this water may be used for other purposes, such as watering plants (add fertilizer as needed), and refilling car batteries and steam irons. (Symons, James M, Plain Talk About Drinking Water: Questions and Answers About the Water You Drink (American Water Works Association, 2001), p. 88) For additional water conservation tips, please visit www.nsf.org/consumer/conservation.
