Frequent Questions

EPA's Emergency Disinfection of Water website (http://www.epa.gov/your-drinking-water/emergency-disinfection-drinking-water), says that granular calcium hypochlorite can be used to disinfect drinking water during an emergency. Where can you buy this?

EPA does not have a list of retailers of granular calcium hypochlorite; however, NSF International, a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization, maintains a list of contact information for manufacturers of calcium hypochlorite (www.nsf.org/Certified/PwsChemicals/). Individuals can contact the manufacturers for information on retailers selling their product.  The NSF Water Treatment and Distribution Systems Program is responsible for the certification of drinking water treatment chemicals to ensure that these products do not contribute contaminants to drinking water that could cause adverse health effects.
