What is the maximum contaminant level (MCL) for iodine?
Under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), there is not a maximum contaminant level (MCL) for iodine. Iodine and chlorine are two chemicals that are commonly used to disinfect drinking water. They are somewhat effective in protecting against exposure to Giardia, but may not be effective in controlling Cryptosporidium.
